I have very limited and slow data on my cellphone. To speed things up, and more importantly to save data, on my Android phone, I would like Chrome to block images from downloading.
On my PC (where I don’t need this feature) it is easy.
Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Images > “Don’t Allow Sites to Show Images”
Question: Does that prevent the images from downloading, or do they download but don’t show?
On my Android, going to Settings in the Chrome Browser, “Privacy and Security” has no “Site Settings” option.
However, under Settings, there is a “Site Settings” link. But under “Site Settings” there is NO “Images” option.
However, there is a JavaScript option. Would disallowing JavaScript prevent a significant amount of images from downloading?
I have Googled this like crazy, but have not come up with settings that work.
Is there an extension I could tack onto my Android Chrome Browser?

Thank you, Myst. You are obviously a valuable member of the forum.
However, the second link contains the reminder:
Please note that ImageBlocker is not a traffic saver and doesn’t prevent image downloading.
and the first link does not specifically say that it blocks images from downloading, only “To disable images from being displayed in webpages in Android:”
For pages that I visit regularly, a data saver would be to visit them on wifi before my trip, then Chrome’s cache will prevent many images from downloading again on those sites.
I have done some more Googling and found a site that specifically shows how to block image downloads in Firefox by playing with about:config. I will try that and report back.

Sounds like you might be on track checking with Firefox. Maybe someone here at the forum can help further. From what I’ve read online, it’s possible to stop images from downloading through a browser such as Firefox for your Android, but they say “assuming the images won’t be cached”. The answer I found was not specific to avoid any type of storage of images from websites you visit. So possibly Firefox can assist with more detailed settings. Hope you find your answer.
