GuestJuly 11, 2017 at 6:10 am #124291For the record I”m all for getting Woody more money. So go ahead and buy what you want thru Woodys link from Amazon. But I know a lot of you as am I concerned about privacy. I for one stay away from using anything that listens to what I am saying. Its bad enough that Microsoft my Internet Service Provider, google and all the rest are spying on us.

AskWoody_MVPJuly 11, 2017 at 10:59 am #124324I noticed that several of the television news agencies (e.g., HLN) are running the Amazon “black Friday in July” story as an actual news story, not a commercial. I saw it last night on the local channel news as well.
I find the lack of lines between news and advertising disturbing.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 12, 2017 at 6:41 am #124491Couldn’t convince myself I needed a Echo in my house. I use Amazon a lot for buying stuff, but I have plenty of devices that let me order stuff already. I also have several bluetooth speakers already and use Siri for what few times I need a assistant. I also fail to see the importance of a “smart” household where everything needs to be controlled by one of these assistants. But I always felt Prime Day was a advantage for Amazon to sell its wares, and for impulse buyers to lighten their wallets. I sort of think these assistants are still a novelty. I guess at $89 its OK but you also could buy the cheaper Dot for $35 and use a bluetooth speaker to do basically the same thing.

AskWoody_MVPJuly 13, 2017 at 12:16 pm #124769I’m kinda late on this BUT there’s at least one report on the following site where consumer watchdogs advise to use caution when doing online shopping on Amazon Prime day so that online shoppers don’t get ripped off:
https://www.thepennyhoarder.com/deals/amazon-prime-day-pricing/I did NOT do any online shopping on Amazon Prime day.
