Amazon scam.  I tried to buy items costing more than $35 expecting free shipping.  I got the usual offer of Amazon Prime free 30-day trial.  I turned it down. Then the site went to force me to take it.  No other delivery option was offered.  I could not make a purchase unless I signed up for Amazon Prime.

Even got someone on the phone and she could not understand why there was not other delivery options.  In fact, there were no delivery options at all.  Just the offer of free Amazon Prime for 30 days with free delivery.  Take it or leave it.  I left the products in my list and will try to buy them another day.  Maybe next week after black Friday week.

I don’t trust Amazon that I can cancel  at any time.  I just see charges of $14/mo on my card forever.  Not going to take a chance.

Try temu, ebay, AliExpress, WalMart, WayFair, HomeDepot, and so many others. Free shipping when available is built into the price you pay in any case. Use “Search with Google Lens” in chrome or “Search the web for image” in edge both of which are handy from the context menu which appears with a right mouse click. Use paypal to cloak your credit card and automatically fill in your name and address and authorize any payment you make.

I’ve tried Amazon Prime a couple of times and then managed to cancel. IMX they make it pretty difficult to find the cancel function. It’s not impossible, but each time I’ve done it I’ve had to look carefully for the way to do it.

For those who’ve been unsuccessful in finding the proverbial “Cancel” button, do you remember roughly how you managed to successfully cancel your membership?

        Just asking.

I often have had to “subscribe” to Prime, not for the free shipping (I always wait till I have more than $35 in my cart) but recently just to be able to order the item I want. Amazon has always been aggressive pushing Prime and seems to get worse. Having said that, I have never had a issue canceling Prime by going into my account settings. If I ever do, I will cancel them in a New York minute.

I wanted to get back to this sooner. I was able to order and was presented with  the usual shipping options on December 5, 2024.  The forced choice for Amazon Prime may have been a glitch on the Amazon website.  At least that was the excuse I found when a google search showed the same thing had happened a few years ago.  Don’t know what to believe, but it is fixed.  No longer forced to sign up for Amazon Prime in oder to place an order.

In order to bypass the prime offer page just select what you are ordering as a gift and then you will proceed to checkout as usual. This forcing by amazon to make you use and pay for prime is a scam and needs to be investigated by the FTC.
