I suffered this to 3minutes 21seconds and couldn’t stand it any further. 48.55 minutes in total! Is this the best MS can come up with? How off putting and droll. I might try to come back to it as I’m
in a lock down situation and boredom may well get the better of me. If the staff at W10 update are of a like ilk it’s no wonder it’s such a shambles.

They run the show because we let them.

 

IBM used to do that long ago until small companies like DG and whatever proved they could do a much better job with online systems.

Oh? How does it make devices more productive by preventing them from upgrading to Windows 11? Is Windows 11 less productive?

If so, you might want to, you know, fix that.

Same again. Windows 10 is a better experience? What’s the point of 11 then?

So Windows 10 is more secure than 11?

Erm, what new workforce?

You could make sure people’s devices stay supported by not deciding to stop supporting them if they are using Windows 11 on them too. You’re not doing anyone a favor by blocking them from an “unsupported” configuration when you’re also the party who decided it’s unsupported.

Windows 10 is a failure compared to Windows 11.

All in good fun, but it illustrates quite well how absurd the statements MS is making really are. They don’t even seem to comprehend what they’re actually telling us. They just said that preventing people with hardware that is just a few years old (including some of their own Surface devices) from upgrading to Windows 11 makes their PCs more productive, more secure, and gives a better experience.

I don’t think that’s the message they intended to send, of course, but it is what they said.  Fortunately for them, I doubt many people will actually pay enough attention to realize that’s what they said, and they wouldn’t care anyway. Statements like that are just so much marketing department word salad that people tune it out and consider their questions “answered,” even if they consider the answer to be nonsensical, if for no other reason than they realize they’re not going to get an actual answer that makes logical sense, and it would be a waste of time to try.

Like IBM of old (I have no idea how they are/have been since about 1980), they (and their ilk – Amdahl tried to hire me for my IBM knowledge) are stuck in the idea that there’s is the only thing out there. It keeps sounding more like a rehash of Robert Morse in How to Succeed in Business without really trying. (He was perfect for the part). They will not/can not change until someone else comes along and takes their business away.

Ransomware, to me, seems all caused by line folks and end users simply clicking on a link that they shouldn’t have. SO. To solve that problem we need to get rid of people – relegate them to typing trite epistles like this, but never allow them near an actual laptop or terminal where they could do some damage. This is quite easy – simply remove the sale of any and all personal computers, and any central system that allows them to access the internet. Solved! Nobody buys PCs, nobody installs MS operating systems, people now have to walk to get a newspaper, (BUT we have that TV/cable/streaming thing that prevents this from truly evolving into a situation which would increase folks’ health (but this will be addressed in another trite epistle sans links!). )

More productive: advances in computer technology is lead by folks who think “hey, wouldn’t it be nice if we had a report that said THIS”, or a PC (Apple included here) that has an app that gives THIS information. This is always offset/balanced by the proliferation of MBAs that were taught the “80%” rule. I think god invented both to balance and frustrate each other. I think it is seriously hilarious. Hardware manufacturers struggle, albeit gleefully, to keep up.

More secure – we had one employee who was sadly alcohol addicted and in evenings or weekends liked to wander into the mainframe room. The operators would call me and plead to get him out of there. So security is simple – put a lock on the door. See the above for de-proliferation of PCs and terminals. I fail to see what the problem is.

Better experience – the last release of Mint had a “Deliver Espresso” button so I literally want for nothing. A clam, in the sea, several inches into the sand, could not be happier.

Yes, of course they make statements that they do not have to look at. But we facilitate that. With every purchase of a new PC or piece of software, we encourage them. Naught will change until we do. Be the change you want to see around you.
