• AirPlay 2 Support for Android TV

While I love my Apple TV for watching much of my content, I still have to keep a couple of Android TV devices on hand for work testing purposes (I have a couple of Sling TV AirTV Minis).

Google Cast does work well with these devices.

However, I need to also enable AirPlay 2 Support on them. The main feature I need is the ability to AirPlay content to the Android TV devices. I searched the Google Play Store, and it seems Reflector is available for Android TV. It’s what I use to AirPlay my iOS screens to my Mac, so it’s probably the best option I could find here.

I don’t need this option yet, but I’m wondering if there’s also a way to AirPlay audio from an Android TV to an Apple HomePod like you can with Apple TV in case I ever wanted to try out the sound enhancements.

    Thanks!

HomePod require Apple TV for streaming audio from a TV set.
Even an AirPlay-enabled TV can’t stream audio, only receive audio.

For Christmas, I’m thinking of putting an Apple TV on my Office TV and putting a HomePod on my Office Desk. The work tests I’ve been doing with Android TV are wrapping up, so I’m ready to pivot to Apple hardware this year. 🙂

Yep, and I may get one over the larger one to save disk space since I have a small office. Still deciding. 🙂

Definitely getting a few HomePod minis for Christmas. I’m trying to find out if they still have the silicon ring that can damage desks the larger one has or if Apple resolved that in the mini.

Hope you would be able to get the mini for Christmas as for now, just 48 hour of pre-orders, there seems to be shortage.

While the HomePod mini became available for pre-order on Friday, the first orders aren’t actually slated to arrive until November 16 at the earliest for the first buyers. The HomePod mini is available in white and space gray, and it’s actually the latter of those now facing supply constraints after 48 hours of orders.

According to Apple’s Online Store, if you order a space gray HomePod mini today, it will arrive between December 2 and December 9 if you pay for express shipping. Other orders will arrive between December 3 and December 10, Apple says.

Meanwhile, if you order the white HomePod mini today with express shipping, it will arrive between November 24 and December 2. With standard shipping, the white HomePod mini would arrive between November 25 and December 3.

This seemingly indicates that Apple is facing higher demand for the space gray HomePod mini than it is for the white variant, though it could be that the space gray model is facing issues on the production and supply chain side of things…

I’m interested in the white ones, which seem to be in larger supply. My goal is to order “around Black Friday” if possible. Even if they arrive after Christmas, it’ll be fine. My iPad mini arrived after my birthday.

HomePod mini reviews: Impressive sound quality and design for users in the Apple ecosystem

TechCrunch says that the $99 HomePod mini offers “remarkably big sound” for its size and price point. The review specifically praises the 360-degree sound:

Where Amazon switched to a front-facing speaker for the new Echo, Apple continues to focus on 360-degree sound. Your preference may depend on where you place the speaker, but this model is more versatile, especially if you’re not just seated in front of the speaker all day. I’ve used a lot of different smart speakers in my day, and honestly, I’m really impressed with the sound the company was able to get out of the 3.3-inch device.

It’s full and clear and impressively powerful for its size. Obviously, that goes double if you opt for a stereo pair.

Engadget also praises the HomePod mini’s sound quality, with the qualification that it’s “still a small speaker.”…

Got my question answered about the silicon ring and the HomePod mini. The issue is resolved in the mini: https://www.macrumors.com/2020/11/12/homepod-mini-wont-leave-white-rings/
