After more than 35 years, we have made the decision to sunset the Finale music notation software and all of its associated products (PrintMusic, Notepad, Songwriter). We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our loyal and passionate users. Thank you for letting us be a part of the wonderful music you’ve made over the years…

As of August 26th, 2024, Finale and PrintMusic are no longer available for sale from MakeMusic

your existing Finale installations will continue to work as long as your current computer is working

you still have access to download installers from your MakeMusic account page and can authorize on compatible operating systems until August 25th, 2025. Effective August 26th, 2025, it will no longer be possible to reauthorize Finale after installing it on a new computer….

Sad. My wife has been an avid Finale user for 25 years.

      Well, this sucks 🙁

Since I’ve made the decision to migrate to Linux (almost certainly Mint), there’s a lot of software I will need to repurchase that isn’t cross-platform.

I started with Finale on a Mac.
Wound up moving my computer life to Windows XP when Apple decided not to allow systems to run natively in OS 9 any longer — which flushed MANY expensive high-end applications I used (probably $3,000 – $4,000) right down the toilet (as they demanded a native OS 9 boot; NOT an emulation in OS X).

XP was pretty good and it worked.
As we all know, it was so good that MS ultimately had to actively kill it 🙁
I hung in with Windows 7 as long as I could, but then my computers themselves started to die (motherboards). Three out of my seven W7 machines, including all that had Finale on them.

Any suggestions for a music notation software that runs on Linux?
