The Cure have released a new single, “Alone,” the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band’s first new song since 2008.

“It’s the track that unlocked the record,” frontman Robert Smith shared of the seven-minute epic in a statement. “As soon as we had that piece of music recorded I knew it was the opening song, and I felt the whole album come into focus. I had been struggling to find the right opening line for the right opening song for a while, working with the simple idea of ‘being alone’, always in the back of my mind this nagging feeling that I already knew what the opening line should be… as soon as we finished recording I remembered the poem ‘Dregs’ by the English poet Ernest Dowson… and that was the moment when I knew the song – and the album – were real.”..

May I request that you don’t just cut and paste but add some original content of your own making?  Even in outside the box, please add your own voice and opinion and don’t merely paste content that can be easily found elsewhere.

Susan, I can say in all certainty that I would not have learned of this news had @Alex5723 not posted the item. Whether it could be easily found elsewhere is moot in my case, as I simply would not have been aware of it. We can’t look for what we don’t know is there to be looked for!

I don’t frequent music or pop-culture sites, so I wouldn’t have come across this news otherwise. I enjoyed some of The Cure’s music back in the day, but I didn’t even know the band was still together. (After we graduate from school, embark on a career, and get married, life gets too complicated to remain in the “cool” crowd.)

My sincere appreciation goes to Alex for making me aware of this item. Perhaps his post will spark (or not) a discussion of New Wave music to rival the threads on classical music performances and science fiction that also dot this forum.

The goal is to always have original content and not repeat what is elsewhere.  All I ask for is not just merely a cut and paste.

I thought this site was all about Computer-Iot related. Did not think we see links about music-bands.

Whats next? Supermarket specials? Or the latest movies?

        Yes, I should have.

        * 2024 seems like an ‘almost forgotten’ bands revivle.

First, Oasis reunion after 15 years

Next, Linkin Park is back with new Album

        And now the Cure.

Nope! This is the “Outside the box – Fun Stuff” sub-forum that already has over 3,100 posted topics. Stay tuned for those supermarket specials and latest movies 😉
