I recently had to upgrade to Office 2003. In Outlook 2002, I could use advanced find to search any file anywhere on the computer. It seems that Outlook 2003 will only search for “Files (Outlook/Exchange)” and not any file anywhere on the computer. Was this a change in the program? Or is there setting I can change to restore the ability to search the entire computer?

The capability to search file files was not included in Outlook 2003 since it duplicated the search function in Windows.

Well that’s the answer — except that the socalled seach function in Windows is clunky and difficult. Thanks.

Many users regretted this design change. You could try one of the desktop search programs (such as Google Desktop or Microsoft’s Windows Desktop Search) as an alternative.

FYI, my experience integrating Google’s Search TB into Outlook was a substantial increase in load time for Outlook. YMMV. I unloaded it.

My employer explicitly forbids users to use desktop search engines because they slow down servers, incl. Exchange. (I know, desktop search engines can be configured not to search network drives and Outlook, but that is too advanced fo most).
