I dual boot Windows 7 and 8 on an Asus motherboard PC, both work fine, with one exception.
I use Adobe Audition 3.0 for editing audio files, on W7 it works perfectly, on W8 when I try to start it, it says no supported audio device is available.
I’ve compared settings on both systems and they seem to be the same. I’ve tried a program called ASIO4ALL, which checks audio device configurations and gives the same results on both Operating systems.
Obviously the background hardware is identical in both cases, so I’m now at a loss as how to proceed.

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

See if one of these articleshas an answer for you.

I’ve tried reinstalling and all the other suggestions, with no change.
Is there a settings file for audio that might be referenced by Audition that could be faulty?

The Adobe site does not say Audition 3.0 is compatible with Windows 8. It say it is compatible with XP & Vista – Audition 3.0 Readme. Audition CS6 had Audition CS6 5.0.2 update patch released. Bug fixes, Windows 8 compatibility. to make it compatible with Windows 8. I suspect you are just lucky that it runs on Windows 7 and doubt that Adobe will patch version 3.0 to run on Windows 8.

I hear what you say, Joe, but many people run it on Windows 8.
Perhaps I’m just one of the unlucky ones.:(

The only other thing would be to check to see if your Windows 8 drivers are up-to-date.

Audition 1.5 works just fine for me on Windows 8. But I had a similar problem with Audition 2.0 on Windows Vista, which is why I never upgraded and stuck with 1.5. Adobe support gave me all kinds of reasons why working with sound on Windows was so difficult; what I couldn’t understand is why Audacity, open source and free, worked just fine but why Audition, which costs $$$, didn’t.

I installed Audacity, mainly to see if it suffered from the same problem.
It works perfectly, I just like Audition’s plug-ins etc better! Shame it won’t work.
