It’s tax season and we have been trying to transfer line-item transaction data from our monthly (downloaded) PDF credit card statements to Excel spreadsheets.
We started the project using Adobe Acrobat Standard 2020 and using its “Export PDF” tool to create Excel sheets.
The problem we encountered was the failure of Acrobat to correctly format the exported data and thus an inability to easily transfer the exported data into usable Excel Workbooks.
We then tried Kofax Power PDF Standard. And it worked.
Kofax was included with our recently acquired Ricoh ScanSnap iX1600 Document Scanner and had sat ideally by for several months until I got frustrated with my old standby Adobe Acrobat – an app that I have been using for decades.
With Kofax all I had to do was:
- Opened a monthly PDF statement,
- Clicked the button Convert PDF to Excel Spreadsheet on the Quick Access Toolbar,
- Clicked OK,
- Then Kofax asked where I wanted to save the file and I answered,
- Presto the app undertook the conversion, and
- Unlike Adobe Acrobat, Kofax created a clean/usable Excel worksheet.
The results were perfect Excel sheets that were properly formatted and data easily copied and pasted into clean workbooks.
In addition to its ease in creating spreadsheets, Kofax can be used to:
- Create PDF files from various document types,
- Edit PDF documents,
- Compile PDF files from various document types, and
- Apply encrypted passwords and permissions to PDF files.
When opened, the software looks like the Microsoft Office interface including a Quick Access Ribbon across the top of the screen.
