Address List Order (EXC2000/W2000/OL2000)

Hi,

Anyone know how to change the order of Address Lists – ie. you open the Address Book, (via the drop down box) the GAL is listed first, then whatever sub-address lists it may have, the the Outlook Address Book is last with its Contacts list. I want to be able to view the Outlook Address Book first in the list, then the GAL. I know people who have it set up this way, but no-one seems to know how it got that way.

(NB. I know how to make it Search certain address lists first, and how to make its default Address list to be Contacts, but I want to make Contacts appear first in the drop-down list as well to avoid navigating the the GAL and its many sub-lists).

You can change the order they are used for resolving addresses and change which appears first when you select the address book but you can’t change how they are listed on the dropdown. The order may be version specific, as my Contacts folders are first, followed by GAL (and other Exchange directories) and an LDAP server last.

Open the Address Book, then it’s tools, options and select Contacts to be first.

Hi Jon,

I found through experience when doing several rollout’s of Outlook that the order you load the items when setting up Outlook on a PC will determine where your contacts are in the list. If, when first setting up Outlook, you load the Exchange Server first and then the Outlook Address Book after that, your contacts will appear at the bottom of the list. If you load your Outlook Address Book first and then your Exchange Server, your contacts will be at the top of the list.

I have no idea why it works like this and it took quite a while to figure out that the order of setting them up was responsible for where they appeared on the list.
