I don’t have Outlook 2007, but see if you can find the equivalent menus: with the Contacts Folder visible, select View | Arrange By | Current View | check Detailed Address Cards. If you have been using a standard (not detailed) Address Cards View, and do not want the Detailed Address Cards View, select View | Arrange By | Current View | Customize Current View, make sure their are no Filters set, and then click the “Fields” dialog and set what you want dispayed on that Card View.

no matter how many entries i make into the address book, the only ones that show are the ones that have e-mail addresses. i try to search for the other entries by name, only to have outlook tell me that there are no such entries. yet, if i attempt to enter the same person again, i get a message telling me that this is a duplicate entry, and it asks me if i want to make it a second separate entry, and if so, it will save the first entry in the deleted file folder. how can there be a duplicate entry when the first one can’t be found? i feel as though i am caught in an mc escher pic…

is there any way that i can make all the entries show up? it took me almost three weeks to figure out that the only entries that were showing were the ones with e-mail addresses. i’ve lost track of how many times i have deleted the address book and started over again. it’s almost enough to make me go back to office 2000 pro, and its version of outlook.

i just want to be able to keep all my friends’ and business contacts’ information in one address/phone book, like i did with my real, live, honest to whoever paper address book and outlook 2000. can anyone out here help me? thanks for any help that you may pass my way. until then, take care and God bless.

From Display Names from the Address Book [Outlook 2007 Developer Reference]: “The Outlook Address Book is an address list or a set of address lists that Outlook creates automatically. By default, it contains one address list for the contacts in your Contacts folder that have at least one e-mail address or fax number entry.”
So, it appears that unless you want to write some code that is the way the address book works. Using Outlook 2007 I can search for other contacts that do not have an e-mail address or fax number. BTW, you could open the Contact part of Outlook in a different window so you can have multiple Outlook applets open concurrently.

Address Book Format vs Contacts – microsoft.public.outlook.contacts | Google Groups is a thread about adress books and Outlook 2000. The basic answer is that the Outlook address book has alwyas acted the way you are observing in Outlook 2007. In Outlook 2000 IMO (InternetMail Only) mode you could use the Windows Address book in the manner you described. The WAB was never the same as the OAB. In Outlook, you should always maintain Contacts using the Contacts module.
