Address Book Source File (Outlook 2000/Exchange)

I’ve discovered a program called “WorldMerge” which looks very interesting. It allows the user to create “individual” e-mail messages using a mail merge type scheme. I’d like to try it out, but I need help with locating my Outlook address book source file for my Contacts folder. The program is asking me for the source’s complete path and file name.

Anyone know what file name I am looking for? Obviously, I’m hoping that it will also include my global address list, as well. Suggestions will be most appreciated. Thank you.

No help for you I am afraid Karnie, but I will be very interested in a any replies. I have been playing around with WorldMerge for a couple of days and I can get it to merge from the Global Address List quite easily, but have not yet figured out how to get it to see my Contact folder. I thought it might have been within a PST file, but that does not seem to work either.

Looking forward to any replies.

it’s all stored in a *.pst but if the program is integrated with outlook, it should know where to look. you may need to export the contacts to a text file for the program to use.

How does WorldMerge work with my current database?

Microsoft Access Database files are directly supported. You just specify the database filename when setting up your project. If your database is in another format, simply export to either tab delimited or comma delimited format and import it into WorldMerge!

looks like you’ll need to use file > export to export to a csv and use that.

Thanks for checking it out and passing it on MaryJ. Why is it that nothing is ever done the simple way for users? You try to find something that is simple and foolproof for users and then find out that it is not as simple for them as you hoped .

That’s life I guess. Anyway, nothing is ever foolproof, because fools are so ingenious .

Thanks for the replies, MaryJ and Barry. According to the marketing information on the web site, it’s supposed to work with Outlook, so I’m making the assumption that there must be a way to access Contacts without resorting to creating a csv or txt file. Frankly, most of my attornies wouldn’t/couldn’t use it if they had to do that. Since you, Barry, have been able to access the Global list easily, it can obviously see that (I’m assuming you used the *.pst file as the source?).

I think that I’ll contact the vendor and see what they have to say. I’ll be unavailable for a week or so, but will report back to this forum what I learn. In the meantime, if anyone else already knows the answer, Barry and I (at least) will appreciate your help. Thanks again.
