• Adding to task bar

I’d like to add some regularly used applications to the task bar, but I can’t figure out how to do it. Some applications show up on the bar when I installed them, but others don’t. I know how to fix the start menu, but I rather use the task bar.

    Thanks

There are two ways that come to mind.

      1) Drag the application’s icon to the taskbar and release. Boom, shortcut.

      2) Create shortcuts in the folder Documents and Settings%username%Application DataMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch. I’ve added a shortcut to this folder in the SendTo folder for my profile as well, so if I see something that needs to be there, I right click, and send it there.

      Cheers!

I have a raft of such applications and soon found my taskbar Quick Launch box filled the Taskbar. frown

I got around this by creating “Toolbar Menus” that I put on the Taskbar. cool

1 Create a folder/directory and put in it Shortcuts to the applications you frequently use.
2 Right click on the Taskbar and select “Toolbars”
      3 Select “New Toolbar”
4 Choose the folder with your shortcuts in it and click “OK”.
5 The Folder name and all the shortcuts in it will now fill the Taskbar with a >> at the right end if there are so many they cannot all be displayed
6 Click and hold the moveable bar to the right of the >> and drag it to the left until only the Folder Nmae and the >> are visible.
7 To select your desired application click on the .. next to the folder name then select you desired application shortcut – note the shortcut can be any valid shortcut form, ie a URL, application, document etc.

I have a number of these “Toolbar Menus” on my Taskbar for different activity groups eg “iNet”, mMedia”, “Sys”, “Proj” (use short folder names to save space on the Taskbar) – saves a heap of space on the Taskbar and is much faster than wading through my oh so long Start Menu grin – and I hate icons all over my desktop. bummer

        Trevor,

That’s a great idea. I too like a clean desktop. I’ve put most things in folders in my Start menu, but I like the task bar better.

        Thanks,

I did that for a while, but I quickly found that the items I was using on a regular basis, were just taking too many clicks to start.

I’ve removed the taskbar folders, and only have a dozen or so programs on my taskbar that I use regularly. I’ve also made my taskbar double high, added the addressbar, and the ZoneAlarm taskbar feature. I find this allows me to work efficently, and effectively both at home and at work.

            Hi
I have 54 shortcuts on my QuickLaunch bar, the whole desktop on the taskbar and 16 apps in the Systray. How? I just made my toolbar area three lines deep and non-autohide. The DT is hidden behind chevrons. Mind you, I leave my machine permanently on. Booting up is something else…
