Adding thePlus/Minus Symbol in Excel on the Mac (Unknown)

I’ve been able to insert the plus/minus symbol from Windows by using Alt-0177 or copying from the Character Map. Does anyone know how to accomplish this same thing on the Macintosh? I’m not sure of the OS version, but know that the machine’s a couple of years old.

With any symbol that is on Key Caps, you can use that key combination, but that dosn’t get you a plus/minus sign. However you can open Word, use the Insert | Symbol with your Excel font, insert a plus/minus in the Word document, and then copy it to Excel. HTH –Sam

The Mac I’m referring to is a few years old–the engineer who uses it only has Excel, and not a copy of Word on this machine, and I don’t think he’s done a lot of exploring of programs bundled with the OS. I wondered if there was something like Character Map with the Mac OS–like we have in Windows, or is there a key that can be pressed with the Command key to make a plus/minus. (I’m pretty much Mac illiterate–but know I could find something if I knew what to look for.)

He needs to get Word! Bummer. Key Caps that I mentioned before is a Mac program that shows you what the keyboard contains when you press the various shif-ctrl-Apple keys. Unfortunately it won’t get you everything, so I have attached a worksheet with all the special characters you’ll probably ever need. You can copy and paste from it. I had to create it on a PC, because my Mac is not connected to the internet, but I saved it as Excel 5, so you should be able to open it. Just yell if you have problems.
