    Hi all,

I’ve been reading the following article: Profile and Folder Redirection in Windows Server 2003 to set up roaming user accounts in Windows 2000 Server (users are using Windows XP machines).
    I reached these lines:

When I define the NTFS permissions, I allow everyone to have read access to the PROFILES folder. I then create sub folders for each user. The sub folder

Can you post a screen shot of the Security tab and the Advanced tab?

I think that the only things you will see listed on that tab are your current, logged in, username – and groups (such as administrators) that you belong to.

If you want to change owner to another user then you must grant “Take Ownership” permission to that user and then log in using that username.

        Hi Stuart,

You’re right. When logged in the server machine as network admin, all the owners I see are the Administrator user and the Administrators group.
Shortly after posting I tried giving the Users group full share control on the Profiles folder (the one containing the folders for each of the roaming accounts). The article recommended to grant read permission only, but this way it worked, and as far as I tested no other user could access a certain user’s folder within Profiles (given all the other permission settings).
As for what you suggested, Stuart, I had already granted the user account “take ownership” permission for its Profilesusername folder. However, when I tried to log on in the server machine, I was prompted that some local policy would prevent users from logging on. I really haven’t had much time to further investigate it.
The important thing is that I could make the roaming user work. I’ll try to have a closer look at the permissions issue later on. Right now I’m testing how things works for a dummy account, so as to try to evaluate how convenient this type of user can be, jotting down log on/off times, watching network performance and projecting resulting HD space requirements.

Thank you and Joe for your kind help
