I have a handout I got from a Microsoft Seminar which says

    Add-Ins
If you have a set of macros that are contained within one workbook, perhaps the best way of making them available throughout the whole of Excel is to save the workbook as an Add-In (choose Add-In as the file type in the Save As dialog box). You can then go to the Tools menu, choose Add-Ins and browse to find the add-in file. Once the add-in has been added in this way, the macros that are contained within it will automatically be available in every Excel session.
This is also an effective way to share your macros with other users; they can simply add your add-in file into their environment as described above

So I have created my file, added a macro, saved it as an add in. Gone to Add Ins, Browse, sure enough it is there and when inserted appears on my add ins list. However when I then try to go Tools, Macros, Macros there is nothing there. I go into VB and the addd in and the module is shown on the explorer.

How do I get to the macros in the normal course of events tro work from my worksheet please?

The functionality has to be made available either through an additional choice on the Worksheet Menu Bar or through a Custom Toolbar that loads with the Add-In (and unloads when then Add-In is unloaded). The functionality you are seeking is best suited for a Personal.xls file. There have been many threads on Customised Toolbars – which are available through a Search on the Excel Board. HTH

The macros in addins (as you have discovered) do not appear in the macro list.

Toolbars are usually created to run the macros. See the StarPost Distributing an Excel application with toolbars (5/95/97/2000/2002)
