    Hi,

I have recently been encountering a common problem in multiple browsers. (It’s been a couple of days since the last one and I don’t remember which browsers. I’m pretty sure it’s been happening in Edge and probably Chrome; I’m not sure about Firefox.)

More and more sites are checking for ad blockers and popping up a message asking you to turn off your ad blocker. I disable uBlock Origin (the only ad blocker I have installed) and refresh the page, only to see the popup again. Why does it think I’m running an ad blocker? Is there a browser setting causing these messages, or something else?

    Thanks for your help,

    Warren Russell

Are you running any kind of script blocker like uMatrix? I know Firefox has tracking protection that could cause these kinds of issues if you turn the protection up beyond its default setting, but I don’t know if Chrome would have that sort of thing (maybe only for tracking done by non-Google).

I’d suggest using Reek’s AAK (Anti-Adblock Killer) along with a userscript extension (Greasemonkey, Tampermonkey, Violentmonkey) and the AAK user script. When used in conjunction with the AAK filter list subscription in the adblocker (I use uBlock Origin), it removes nearly all of the “disable your adblocker” things.

Note that if you do use a script blocker, you will probably need to disable it for the sites that have adblock blocking for the AAK stuff to work its magic.

Some times reloading the page will reload the message page and not the original page request. Try again from the original link.

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.
