I am using Active Sync 3.1 and Outlook 2000 However it has suddenly stopped wanting to Sync correctly. If I have Outlook open then Active sync reports that “synchronization cannot start because this desktop cannot access necessary information…” If I do not have Outlook open then it cannot update Appointments. It then reports that it can either not write to or read from outlook. It appears to be a 2000 problem in that I uninstalled it then installed 98 and worked just fine. I have tried the couple of things suggested at support.microsoft.com (detect and repair, new .pst) but none of this has worked either. This is a new problem in that it worked just fine last week. Even uninstalling and reinstalliing Activesync does not cure the problem. Also with Activesync open and talking to the PalmPC then Outlook acts as if it cannot see the outlook.pst.

Strange any help would be appreciated.

I have to thank Woody in that I did not know this was out and in reviewing the old WOW’s saw this and tried build 9587 but still no solution. Thanks for the info. In looking back on the original post I had not mentioned which build I had. I have also since then tried the solution offered in Knowledge base article Q243029 and still to no avail. I am at this point running the CE device without updating the calendar which to me severely limits the usefulness of the device. I am still plugging away at this. It is strange that it happened all of a sudden and I do not remember loading anything else on the computer that might have caused this. Also I have listened to Woody and due to the serious constraints that SP2 puts on Outlook have avoided loading that.

well I finally fixed it. After uninstalling and reinstalling another time, It would still not work, Even changing to Corporate Mail would not jar it loose. However due to the lateness of the night or just plain frustration I swapped from Internet only to Corporate and then magically it works. NO idea what really fixed it other than The last time I switched between Internet and then back to Corporate it asked for the CD this time around and then all of sudden it is working again. thanks for all your ideas. the Microsoft KB article that I stumbled across with this suggestion is Q276563 It seems to have fixed the problem. I think that ActiveSync running may have prevented this from happening the first time in that it was still running. After no resolution then tried leaving only Explorer and Systray open and that is when it worked itself out.

      Thanks for your help
