I’ve Had win 10 pro on my computer for years and suddenly this week it is telling me that I need to activate it. Does anyone know what is happening?

I read on the internet that microsoft servers were down and that my windows would be activated in 24 hours so I waited. It is still de-actived after about a week.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has this windows 10 Pro been the result of an upgrade from either windows 7 | 8 | 8.1 OEM ?
If it was, you could be waiting forever for re-activation

Thanks everyone. It’s time for a re-install anyway.

What do you see when you go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation? Do you have a W10 Pro product key?  If in doubt, there are various key finder programs available, but I would recommend Belarc Advisor, because (for me anyway) it will display not only my current key but also any previous ones.  My PC came with Windows 7 Home, was upgraded to Windows 10 Home, and then to Windows 10 Pro, and Belarc shows me all the keys – like this:
Microsoft – Windows 10 Home (prior license)                         xxxx……..
      Microsoft – Windows 10 Professional (x64)                              xxxx……..
Microsoft – Windows 7 Home Premium (prior license)         xxxx……..

You may find something useful there, if Windows is now asking for an activation key.  If you don’t already have Belarc, download it and give it a go.

You can ring MS to reactivate it – they will probably ask a few questions, but it’s a legit installation (isn’t it?) so no worries.

      cheers, Paul
