Every morning when I fire up Outlook at work. It grinds and grinds. After 2 or 3 minutes I get the message “Action failed.”

I’ve tried to figure out what it’s trying to do, but I’m not sure where to start looking. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You could try starting Outlook in safe mode to see if that makes a difference. (Start | Run, Outlook.exe /safe)

disable addins in tools | options | other | advanced.

you should also start outlook with the /cleanreminders switch – it might be trying to run reminders.

if all else fails, create a new profile and see if it loads correctly.

        Mary,

I think it is trying to do something to the reminders because this all started after I started syncing with my PDA. Sometimes I get 2 copies of the same reminders. Where is the /cleanreminders switch?

        Thanks

          start menu, run dialog, type:

          outlook /cleanreminders

you may need to use the full path to outlook. (i often use the quick launch shortcut and append switches to it)

I tried to run the dialogue

            “C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeOutlook.exe”/clean reminders

I get the error “Cannot find the file __ (or one of its compnents)”.

Our local help desk told me to run msconfig. I get the same error. They said that I don’t have some components installed and want me to bring in my tower for a few days. Is there something else I can check to make sure that whatever should be installed really isn’t there? The helpdesk person was asking someone else what to do and relaying their instructions. When I asked this question, they weren’t sure about the answer.

I tried running both cleanreminders and msconfig on my laptop (Win2000) and got the same errors.

Is it possible that somehow your setup is attempting to synch with the PDA on start-up; regardless of whether or not the PDA is available? In other words, have you troubleshot the PDA synch set-up configuration?

              Hope this helps
