I’d used three versions of Acronis. The first was OK but kind’a slow. When the 2nd and 3rd versions were available (2017 and 2019?), they were unserviceable on a PC. So I got a different product.

I used Acronis for years. Stopped updating at 2019 after changes made that I didn’t like.
Updated to the latest version of Cyber Protect after they added an option for just running backups.
I still don’t like moving backup files to .tibx (replacing .tib individual files) format.

I stopped at True Image 2017 as that is the only last version of True Image that didn’t install anti-virus stuff onto the OS as I wanted a backup tool ONLY not an anti-virus / security suite.

To be fair I did try every newer version from True Image 2018 up to the latest True Image 2025 out of curiosity but they are nowhere near as good as the 2017 version and as mentioned above. Tibx files especially combining all differentals / incrementals into one single file to me was a massive mistake and an annoyance.

Tibx files especially combining all differentals / incrementals into one single file

Your reply helped me:  Because I didn’t know or remember about them combining files, I’d e-mailed them yesterday asking if that is what they’re doing right now. They didn’t understand the question the first time I asked it. So I sent it to them again.

The default True Image 2025 (imperious) installation also includes anti-ransomware and AV. Since I’m already using another software to handle that, I had to turn off those features in True Image.

You can select custom install and disable anti-ransomware and AV.

We have been using Acronis since 2016.

We are currently using Acronis True Image for Western Digital Version 2023, Build 39676 – the free version that is available to users of Western Digital SSDs and HDs – on all of our computers.

      We have the app:

      • Setup to backup computers to an internal drive every day just after the close of business,
      • Backup each computer to external drives weekly,
      • Cloning each system to external drive just prior to installing monthly Windows updates,
      • Cloning the C drive of each new computer to a SSD just after setting up Windows for the first time and before installing any software then putting the cloned drive away for safe keeping,
      • Active Protection turned off,
      • Automatic Check for updates turned on,
      • Metered Wi-Fi connections turned off, and
      • Wi-Fi networks for backups turned off.

      And all is well.

As a footnote to my earlier post, our records indicate that we purchased Acronis True Image Home in 2009.

Starting in 2011 we started using the Western Digital edition.

Then in 2016 we purchased an Acronis True Image 2016 Upgrade license directly from cleverbridge, Inc.

        The2016 purchase package also included:

        • Laplink PC Mover Pro,
        • ioIo System Mechanic Pro, and
        • Acronis Disk Director 12

We probably purchased the package because it included Laplink.

I’d e-mailed them yesterday asking if that is what they’re doing right now. They didn’t understand the question the first time I asked it. So I sent it to them again.

Today, as I was readying a reply to Acronis that they didn’t answer my question about the separation of their image backups into ‘full’ or ‘incremental’ or ‘differential’ files, I happened to click by accident on the only backup file visible.

When I did, a new Windows Explorer window popped open. The new window showed the contents of that ‘single’ backup file to contain multiple incremental backups. That’s OK by me. If I need to restore something their software manages the process.

Good show. Good idea. Because Laplink Pro broke the hibernation timers and display wake-up drivers on my (September 2023) Lenovo box, after I wipe and re-image the OS from a factory file I’m inclined to do that, too.

I’ve installed over 100 copies of True Image backup software for clients. The interface is cumbersome since once it correctly working, there isn’t any reason to launch True Image sometimes for months/years. With that said, I’ve found it to be reliable from restoring files/folders to entire hard disk.

My love of their product ended with the required subscription.  Seldom was there enough new (and useful) features to justify moving to a new version, and my clients bristle at (yet another) subscription to pay.  The business model is great for Acronis, but bad for customers.

“Version 2023, Build 39676, The product is up to date”

It seems to be 2 years old version.
