Running Acronis 2019 I got this mail :

Dear Acronis user,

As you know, Acronis operates a global network of cloud data centers that are built to provide the highest levels of safety, security, and accessibility. To ensure that these standards are maintained, we are releasing a free mandatory software update for Acronis True Image (versions 2017–2021).
(I saw on the update page updates for version 2014, 2015)

We highly recommend that you install this update before February 2022. Doing so will not only enhance your security, but is also necessary for all product features that use the Acronis Cloud to continue working properly. If you choose not to update your software, certain functionalities will be unavailable beginning in February.

Simply download the latest product version, launch it, and install it over your existing build. If you need help, you can follow these instructions.

We use Acronis True Image 2019 and just received the update email,

We do not use Acronis Cloud storage and are wondering if it is important to download and install the update. Our thoughts are to avoid the update.

Also remember that for those who have Western Digital drives in their systems they can download the free Western Digital version of Acronis from the WD support web site.

The WD version of Acronis is free of the Acronis bloatware.

I am still using Acronis True Image 2016, but on bootable CD only. The bootable media works on the motherboards / CPUs I use (X370 / B450 / X99 / B365 / Z390 / Z370).

Apparently the latest update to Acronis True Image 2016 is build 6595 released in 2017. So these “mandatory updates” are irrelevant to me.

I only use Acronis True Image to perform partition image creation and recovery. So the cloud features are useless to me.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.
