Hi,
On one of my pc’s I am not able to send mail to the same domain of the account.
Like when the account is a@xy.com it can’t send to b@xy.com.
When I make another account on this pc with the same domainname the same happens.
Like when the account is x@xy.com it can’t send to y@xy.com.
There’s no problem sending to other domains.
Like when the account is a@xy.com no problem sending to a@ab.com
When I make another account of another domain it has no problems.
Like with account a@ab.com sending to x@xy.com no problem.
All sent messages appear in Sent Messages. Also the ones that aren’t received.
The ones that aren’t received also don’t show up in the webmail of the provider.
Sending by webmail is no problem.
Using the same accounts on another pc in the network don’t give problems.
This problem started about a week ago on this particular pc.
There are no rules in OE or filters in Internet Settings.
Anyone?
TIA
Sjors

AskWoody LoungerAugust 3, 2008 at 4:56 am #1119541Suit yourself. Often, finding out what caused a “wierd” problem such as this is next to impossible over an internet forum and often in actual hands on troubleshooting as well. Using System Restore to resolve your issue was a suggestion aimed at doing that. Ultimately, it is up to you to choose which advice to follow to resolve your problem.
Might I ask why you seem so adamantly opposed to using System Restore to see if it will correct your problem ?? If it doesn’t do any good, it is completely reversable.

AskWoody_MVPAugust 3, 2008 at 3:41 am #1119530Please explain how you are doing the following:
“When I make another account on this pc with the same domainname”Does this other email account exist at your ISP server and is owned by you?

AskWoody PlusAugust 3, 2008 at 3:55 am #1119532Sure, I just take the account from another computer and make it on the troublesome.
Then I send a mail to any address on that domain, OE says it is sent, but it doesn’t arrive.
Going back to the pc that doesn’t have this behavior and sending with the same account is succesfull.
Does that explain things?
And yes, I can make my own accounts on the ISP server. -

AskWoody LoungerAugust 3, 2008 at 9:27 am #1119570Hi George
The thing that leaps out of me in your original post is:
…This problem started about a week ago on this particular pc…
The questions I would ask myself would be (and I am sure you have thought these also)
1) Was there any updates on or around this time either to:
a) The Operating System
Any applications on the system
2) Are all PC’s that you talk about from the same image?
3) Do all the PC’s you talk about have the same updates and applications
4) Already mentioned above but have you selected Leave retrieved messages on server via Tools | Accounts | Advanced

AskWoody PlusAugust 3, 2008 at 6:48 pm #1119594Jerry,
Me too, I keep thinking about that Friday. What can have happened.
Other PC’s are for 99% similar, and we don’t know about any updates or patches.
But then, there are silent ones the user isn’t aware of.
Leave retrieved is on for 3 days, but that has nothing to do with the problem,
since they are not retrieved at all! Not even received on the mailserver.
I tried a lot of things, but the one thing that remains:
OE can’t send from accounts ..@xyz.com to accounts ..@xyx.com.
No problem sending from ..@abc.com to …@abc.com.
Beats me but doesn’t sound like a patch that is in the way, rather some filter that’s activated. -

AskWoody PlusAugust 4, 2008 at 6:37 am #1119720not deliberately anyway. This is a non-adventurous user so I’m sure she didn’t change anything. It’s a software firewall, if there were any updates then I guess the other pc’s would have the same problem. It’s one network, with pc’s that are 99% similar. The problem is that I have neither heard of such a problem. And as it seems none of you loungers have either

AskWoody PlusAugust 5, 2008 at 7:29 am #1119856Guess what? Today a friend called asking why I didn’t answer her mails. Never received them so…..
Anyway, I went to her, and she seems to have a similar problem. Since about 4 weeks she’s sending mails to me from OE. She has a different provider and a different PC. I seem to be the only one that doesn’t receive her mails. No complains from others that is. Tried to send from Eudora to my address: no problem.
And Joe, checked her hosts-file, did a thorough scan, nothing.
So the only difference is the domainname these two pc’s aren’t able to send to. The first one not to it’s own e-mail domain, the second not to one other domain (checked another e-mail address on my domain too: no luck). And yes, that are different domains.
This behavior totally beats me. Can’t be a coincedence, others must have it too. -

AskWoody PlusAugust 5, 2008 at 7:51 am #1119861Hi John, good to see you at my party.
No, it has not been suggested yet, but it is a thing I already tried. Since I found some reporting regarding that possibility.
But no, it doesn’t help.
Would be unbelievable to me, filtering out one domain and sending to all others. Don’t you agree? -
WSJohnBF
AskWoody LoungerAugust 5, 2008 at 8:05 am #1119866Yep, I’m late to the party and the keg has run out. Yes, the problem is strange.
Several previous posters noted that it may be an ISP problem. Since you are using POP and SMTP, I’d check with the ISP to see if they use spam filters and if there’s any chance they have blacklisted a certain address because of prior abuse.
And I have no further ideas.

AskWoody PlusAugust 6, 2008 at 7:55 pm #1120027ha, yes I will try that in the next couple of weeks, user permitting.
But it remains weird having a second pc with the same behavior, totally different in config, and no reporting of this on the internet, anyway not finding any reports.
I will keep you posted, but it may take a couple of weeks. -

AskWoody PlusAugust 20, 2008 at 1:32 am #1122317Hi,
New problems with another person. Again Outlook Express not sending to specific adresses.
So far the same as the other problems. But this time I sent a message from one ot the adresses he couldn’t send to.
On receiving that mail I replied and the reply was received!
Sending a new message doesn’t come through.
Weird. Anyone? TIA -

AskWoody PlusAugust 22, 2008 at 3:42 am #1122612Hi,
Did all things loungers advised: no luck at all. Outlook Express won’t send to an address in the same domain. I deleted all accounts, the addressbook, the mails. Started with a blank version of OE. When I make an account of another domain OE doesn’t have a problem to send to the original domain, as I already said. But using an account like abc@company.com will not be able to send to xyz@company.com. Sending to other domains is no problem. The message does not show up in the webmail of the receiver.
Weirdest of all: when I use abc@company.com in Thunderbird or any other e-mail program I don’t have these problem. So it’s related to OE definitely.
Anyone? -

AskWoody MVPAugust 22, 2008 at 3:50 am #1122613Something is really wierd on that machine. Are you willing to try Windows Live Mail – Overview? It is the successor to OE.

AskWoody PlusAugust 22, 2008 at 9:58 pm #1122695Well guys, that are possibilities I have thought about, but doing a system restore or creating another login, or even get a new pc, makes it in my thoughts a little overreacted to such a problem. I would like to know what can cause this problem and get a solution from there. I know there are more ways that lead to Rome, I mentioned some myself. Tnx anyway

AskWoody LoungerAugust 23, 2008 at 3:00 am #1122712>I know there are more ways that lead to Rome
And Rome wasn’t built in a day, but every day it was under construction, costs went up.
It would seem that in a business environment (I’m guessing that’s what this is, although you really haven’t said so) a problem that is ongoing for almost a month and appears to be spreading to other machines (again speculating because you never said if the first machine’s problem was resolved) would be a priority to get straightened out promptly. Especially if it involves internal or external company communications.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 23, 2008 at 8:05 am #1122735Can you install Wireshark (or your favorite protocol analyzer) and view the SMTP session to see whether messages to the problem domain look any different than messages to domains that work? This assumes you do not encrypt the connection to the SMTP server using SSL. If it is encrypted, then you probably won’t be able to glean anything from those packets.

AskWoody PlusAugust 23, 2008 at 8:27 am #1122742tnx, will take a look at that, never used it before so with having a temporarily solution on this pc and me going on a vacation (no, not to Rome, was there last year and helped someone with an Italian version of Linux not speaking Italian or ‘linux’, but that aside). Will let you know when time comes.
