We are writing a program to import a whole series of documents into Access with attributes such as date created and modified. We can do this OK, but we also want to look at and import the other file attributes. These are the ones you see when you right click on the file, select properties and then look at the the summary and custom properties. Is it possible to extract this data so we can save it in the database as well?

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 7, 2005 at 6:17 am #927129If you are talking about Word documents, you can use Automation to start Word, open the documents, and read their document properties, all in VBA code.
Alternatively, you can download and install DSOFile.dll. See Dsofile.dll lets you edit Office document properties without Office in Visual Basic .NET 2003 and in Visual Basic .NET 2002. (It works in Office VBA too, despite the .NET reference)
