There seems to be large gaping holes in my Access help system. This query is to ask if this is by Microsoft design or if my system is only partially installed. Almost all subjects concerning the database models are lacking their detailed help text. For one example (of a really great many), when I want to find out how the method CancelUpdate works, entering that name in the index box produces the following three topics in the “Choose a topic” box: “CancelUpdate Method (ADO)”, “CancelUpdate Method (RDS)”, and “CancelUpdate Method (DAO)”. None, however, has any corresponding help text.

As I asked at the beginning, is my installation faulty or are there links to the net that I should be using but don’t know about?

    Thanks for your attention, John

If you get no help text at all, it would seem that your installation is incomplete or damaged. I get short help texts for each of the three topics you mention in my Access 2002 SP-2, with links to examples.

Thanks for your response. I got out my original Office xp Professional cd and reinstalled the Access help section. The three topics I mantioned earlier still had no help text. (ie. the text from the last topic that did have text remained on the screen) Then I got out sp1 and sp2 but found no mention of any help text update. Do you have any ideas where I can turn now.

        John

Sorry, no idea. Hopefully somebody else will jump in…

You might start by downloading and installing the latest version of MDAC from the Microsoft site. That sometimes fixes the broken help for ADO. I’ve seen this same phenomenon in Office 2000 because the help files for ADO were not installed where Help seems to expect them, so it only has the indexes for the topics, not the actual topics. Here’s a solution that worked for Office 2000. It might do the same for 2002. shrug

There are an updated set of help files available for download from http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/ofHelp.aspx%5B/url%5D that may solve your problem as well. Bear in mind that all of the DAO and ADO help is contained in the VBA Help, not in Access.
