Access Runtime ? (2000/XP)

I recently had to copy a clients database onto their pc and came across a few problems.
Access seemed to be a cut down version with only one menu and no way to view the database window, form designs or vba editor etc.

Is this the runtime version? And how would I tell from the from exe file alone? Running a search in windows explorer turned up 3 msaccess.exe files, all of which were in odd locations. Double-clicking on one of them threw up an error message, which I unfortunately didn’t write down.

For some reason the margins on a report had been reset and I had no way of changing them (and saving the settings). Are there likely to be any other surprises I need to be aware of?

It certainly sounds like a runtime version. The executable has the same name as the full version because it is the same file, but the runtime libraries do not support viewing the database window, etc. Runtimes are intended to run the application. They do not include a user interface for modifying the objects or code in the application. If you designed the report for a specific printer rather than the default, that could cause the margins to reset, but you won’t be able to correct that on a runtime installation. On-line help will give you the details of the runtime limitations.

Regarding the report margins, the report is set to use the default printer but the margins are set at about 10mm all round. I do occasionally get margins getting reset in databases on my pc (although they fine so far in the db that prompted this post).
I read about the bug related to the name autocorrect feature but that seems to pertain to Access 2000 – and whilst the database is in 2000 I have XP installed on the pc so is that still a possible cause?

If something is causing the margins the change when it is opened on the pc with the runtime version only, I’m guessing there is nothing that can be done about it on that machine, as there are no service packs to install or settings to change in the application software.

I get that all the time at work installing my database on other people’s computers. the only way i ever solved it was by calling up tech support and having them install Access on their computers to replace that watered down version. But the admins on this site could probably give you better information than me.

Thanks both of you. Unfortunatley I don’t think getting the full version of Access installed is a viable option. I’ve never see the runtime version before so I wanted to check if that’s what I’m dealing with.
