• Access Form Filters when Opening

I have an MS Access database. I built the database almost a decade ago and we use it daily at work. The backend is in Office 2000 and resides on a machine running Windows XP. I have a front-end on my computer which runs Office 2007 on Windows Vista. There is also a front-end on the Windows XP/Office 2000 machine.

Everytime I open the main form to display the member information, it opens with a filter applied and just one record accessible until I click to remove the filter. This does NOT happen on the Windows XP/Office 2000 machine that houses the backend, and it didn’t happen on my own Windows XP/Office 2000 machine, nor on my Windows XP/Office 2003 laptop. It began when I put the frontend on the Vista machine. I don’t remember if it started before or after I upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007 on that machine.

There is no code in the “On Open” event for the form.

Can anyone advise how to disable this filter from occurring when the form opens?

    Thank you.

I suspect that behavior started with Access 2007. If you check the main form, there is a new property in 2007 that says apply filter on Load, or something to that affect, and it is probably turned on. Turn it off and it should stop applying the filter.

Yes! There it was – Filter on Load “Yes” in the property sheet (and the weirdest little filter in the “Filter” property – to search for that member’s email address!)
Any clue how that filter would have made its way into that property sheet in the first place?
And does the “order by” underneath the “Filter on Load” apply to that filter, so I should delete that as well?

      Thanks

I generally try to clear all those when you put out a new version of a form. The properties get set because someone uses the filter or sort properties, probably with a right click, and then when the form is closed it asks if the user wants to save changes and they say yes. You may want to change the property that allows you to save changes in form view and turn it off so changes can only be made in design view.
