Hello all: My company is upgrading from MS Office 97 to MS Office 2000 (Access included) in a couple of weeks. What problems will I encounter with my split databases when I try to convert them to Access 2000? Any and all suggestions are welcome. TIA.

AskWoody_MVPOctober 18, 2001 at 1:26 pm #547432I don’t mean to dismiss the information in the White Paper – it is quite valuable. However it was written in 1999 and there have been some additional discoveries. For one thing, if you have a split front-end/back-end database, if possible convert both at the same time. We recently converted several dozen Access 97 apps to Access 2K and had to leave the back-end in Access 97 for a while. We experienced a significant performance problem during that time, and ultimately some corruption that caused us to loose some data records in the back-end.
Also, if you are using any of the Windows Common Controls, be sure and update the references to the version that comes with Office 2K (mscomctl.ocx). Otherwise the behavior of things like the treeview and image controls seems flakey. Also note that there are several versions of mscomctl.ocx floating around – make sure you and all of your users are on the same version.
Hope our experience is of some use to you.
