I have an Access 2000 database set up with a frontend that will be kept on the users local drive and linked to tables in the backend that will be located on the server. During the testing phase, I wanted to setup a password to provide basic level security for the backend and for the frontend. However, when I set the password for the backend and then opened the frontend that did not yet have a password, it did not provide me with a box asking for a password but gave me a password error message. How can I have a password that is different for both the backend and for the frontend or is that possible?

you need to provide the back-end password in the connection (link) string for the back-end tables

Or you might try implementing Workgroup level security. Access database passwords are ridiculously easy to crack, a DOS based program and 30 seconds is all that’s needed, but a Workgroup implementation should be much more secure.

How do you go about providing a back-end password in the connection (link) string for the back-end tables?
