weepPlease, I am confused. I’ve just put my Access 2000 database up over the network – NT4. I have set the permissions of the tables so that there are some tables and forms which only one group have any permissions for the rest of the users – in a different group dont have any access to these. I put the database up and connected to the workgroup via the shorcut. However when anyone of the users who should not have any permissions for these forms opens the database the permissions of the database file on the network changes and adds that person and gives them full control, giving them access to the tables and forms which they shouldn’t have any access to.

    TIA

Have you removed all permissions from the default Admin user and ensured that that user is no longer in the Admins group?

Yep, So not sure whats going on. Or if it is an access problem or an NT one!
        Cheers

Your problem MAY lie in the ‘Users’ group permissions, which is a default group from which individual users can’t be removed. I remove all permissions from the Users group.
Once the default Users group have no rights to anything, create a new group(s) that have the appropriate rights and assign users to these groups as appropriate.

As the previous responder stated, it is also necessary to remove Admin from the Admins group.

FANTASTIC, thank you very much. I didn’t know that users gave full permissions to everybody on everything. It is now behaving as a good database should. groovin cheers
