    I develop FE.mdb apps in a2k

I have a user that is getting a new computer with A2007 preinstalled.

His old computer is running A2003 with my a2k FE.mdb app with his be Default File Format set to Access 2000

Can the user run his new computer with A2007 with my a2k FE.mdb app with his be Default File Format set to Access 2000?

    Thanks, John

Access 2007 can work with Access 2000 format databases without conversion. (The default database file format isn’t relevant here)

Your client will probably run into the much more stringent security in Access 2007 – all VBA code will be disabled until the client “trusts” the database.

Is there a Microsoft Knowledge Base Article/white papper that describes the direction that I’m taking with A2007/A2000 scenario described above to best configure the A2007 system and point out any mine fields I should be aware of?

        Thanks, John

Here is the Access 2007 Support Centre

Like you I develop in 2000 format (but using 2003). Once clients stated using 2007, I got another computer with 2007 for testing. By and large everything works, but there have been a few random things that gave problems.

I have recently started using this as my main machine, so I have started working on lots of different jobs using 2007, and I am not finding problems.

But it is hard to go on-site and not have a clue where to find things in 2007.

One minor thing. In 2000 you can rely on a maximised startup form hiding the database window, whether you explicitly hide it or not. In 2007 you will find the Navigation Pane taking up screen space, even if you shrink it. DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdWindowHide will completely hide it.

Another option is the Document Window Options..The default is Tabbed Documents. With this new windows do not hide the previous ones, because they all have Tabs. Change the option to Overlapping Windows.

I had some problems with a custom switchboard. I had the Database Close button set to compact and repair via VBA code on close and as I recall 2007 didn’t like that. I merely disabled that line of code and used the manual setting in Tools|Options instead. You will definitely need to learn how to set up your database folder in trusted locations.

I am using the same scenario (A2K mde file running on A2003 and A2007 boxes)

The only problem i have found so far (apart from the Trust centre stuff mentioned earlier), is that my Close Report Preview button on my custom toolbar does not work (this is a known bug).
