We’re almost ready to roll out the AskWoody Plus membership system. Still have one technical hurdle — a bug in one of our partner’s signup routines –

I already donated on 12/22/18 which will show up as my email address since I used PayPal. Does that qualify me as a plus member without donating again on the link you provided in your post?

From what I could see, you need to click on the link as if you’re subscribing, but then click on the coupon prompt and highlighting the coupon code to reveal the code to be used – or in my case two codes so I hadn’t a clue which to use!

I’ll have to go back through my credit card statements anyway as I’m unsure when I last donated, beyond buying the Windows 10 book the other week – I was hoping to be given it by one of the family for Christmas but they gave me other things so I ended up getting it myself as part of my preparations for the Windows 7 EOL support. Money well spent!

I figured out which credit card I used, and I found the request for my coupon code.  How do I figure out what my coupon code is?

Thanks n advance for helping me with this.

Does that qualify me as a plus member without donating again on the link you provided in your post?

        Yes, that qualifies you 🙂

But of course, any additional donations that existing donors wish to contribute towards the running of AskWoody would be most welcome. In that case, just go through the normal subscribe route, not using the coupon.

Took the words right outta my mouth. 🙂

          @CADesertRat
          – just go through the signup sequence and use the PATRON coupon code.

Maybe it’s just me but I see no place whatsoever to use “PATRON” for a coupon when I open the link to join. There’s nothing on there asking for a coupon that I can see.

              Yep….

Once you’re logged on, click on this link: https://www.askwoody.com/plus-membership

At that point, you can choose any contribution amount and click Join Plus Now.

Up at the top, where it says Have a coupon? click on Click here to enter your code.

              Enter the coupon code

              PATRON

Then click Apply coupon. It’s a 100% discount coupon.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you use a “real” email address, so you can receive your Newsletters and Alerts.

You’ll end up with a free one-year subscription, with our compliments. If we have any questions, we’ll email you.

Ok, I didn’t realize that you have to enter a dollar amount to get to the area for entering a coupon. I muddled my way through LOL 🙂

              thanks

Yeah – that’s the only way I could get it to work… a “100% discount.”

Woody et al, thank you very much for your efforts over the past a couple of years that I have been stopping by. I have gleaned some valuable information and found a solution or two for a problem I was experiencing.  Unfortunately, regardless of how deserving, I just can’t afford to financially support all of the sites I visit and by extension the hard work and efforts of everyone on those sites.

There are many reasons for a paid subscription policy and I understand most of them. Someone has to pay to keep the lights on and the bandwidth flowing.  Information has value  and we all need to feed ourselves and our family. Thankfully, the internet is a big place and I am a firm believer that information wants to be free. While I will not receive a plethora of email from this site, I do expect that I will be able to find the same tidbits of wisdom and reporting elsewhere. Getting it will probably not be as easy or as succinct as I have become accustomed to here but somethings take a bit of work. Besides, I really don’t want any more email than I receive now. A clean inbox is an art predicated on not receiving more than you can read within a few hours of it arriving. Needless to say, I do not subscribe to mailing lists, free or paid, I’m  just not interested in everything any person has to say. I much prefer to go to as site and see for myself what new postings are on offer.

I wish the staff the best of luck  with the revamped AskWoody site and for the users I wish the very best in the way of service for the monetary support you put forward to remain in the know.

I’ll watch as things change over the coming weeks and perhaps there will still be something here for me after the changes are complete. If not, gracias por todo el pescado!

      • #308521

Anonymous posts are still welcome – and free.

        • #308567

          Absolutely.

I took a lot of flak for that decision — Windows Secrets doesn’t allow anonymous posts — but AskWoody.com will remain free, and open to anonymous posts.

I have many friends who can only post anonymously. That’s cool. Some of them even contribute to the site!

(And I understand about inbox overload. That’s why there’s an opt-out checkbox on the AskWoody Plus signup form.)

I was so curious what this post would turn out to be. Please, fellow anonymous, keep coming around. I have found Woody in particular, as well as those in moderating roles, very consistent in supporting the ability for all to post (following lounge rules of course). Just count me as another thankful anonymous. Pleased that the gremlins are being wrangled in such short order.

    • #308547

Thanks for the Plus membership, Woody! Just curious– will this end up being a recurring perk for those of us who remain patrons (i.e., contributing month-to-month)?

If you want to continue to contribute via Patreon – monthly payments – of course you’ll be getting a perpetual free Plus Membership.

The next time you get a renewal notice, shoot me mail at CustomerSupport@AskWoody.com, explain that you’re a donor of a different stripe, and we’ll get you extended.

        Thanks for the support!

As a Patreon contributor, glad to hear this will be perpetual for as long as I give thank$ for the tremendous value AskWoody provides me — including all the Plus value that will no doubt come from the Windows Secrets community! 🙂

Yes, if you have been contributing monthly the past year, that will qualify you for a year’s subscription. Follow the steps here.

Donations are donations, and they’re greatly appreciated. Even if you send wampum via carrier pigeon.

Fortunately the system is robust enough that I can jigger it as necessary.

Happy to oblige. I’ve been a long-time lurker– and occasionally an anonymous poster– here on the site for a while now, and finally decided to pony up a few months ago. The plan (as of right now) is to leave the monthly donation going indefinitely, because it just makes me feel good knowing I’m helping to keep the lights on, and the site is just too valuable a resource for me to not be supporting it while I can.

Was happy to pay $15 to get the Free Subscription (assuming my three small ’18 PayPal donations — 12/22; 3/19; 3/6 — deserved one) as No Code appeared for me after clk’ing the $15 box and Next. Will add in ’19.

Maybe some Donors aren’t assigned Codes yet. FYI if so.

Thanks. Just Re-Donated via PayPal  on the regular Link after getting Setup.

I had made a couple of small contributions in 2018 so went ahead and went through the sign up procedure. Didn’t notice to press the “apply” button so got charged anyway; don’t care about that, you deserve the money. But, my question is, how do we tell that this worked and that we’re correctly signed up

    • #308869

Further to my earlier comment, I discovered that my last donation was in December 2017 so I didn’t qualify for a free year – still no idea, however, what the two codes I saw related to!

Any way, I’ve made a payment for 1 year with my credit card using Paypal (but not a Paypal account), and judging by the mass of emails received that seems to have gone through ok as a single payment as intended but with a recurring payment Profile ID created and instantly canceled. Not sure what that was all about, especially as the Profile ID involved a number of letters and numerals which included an extremely rude word (Hint: it began with “F”)- hopefully it was all legitimate!

      • #308924

You hit one of the nagging bugs. There are several (ask the moderators!)

For some reason, when you put a payment through PayPal, the PayPal routines set you up for a recurring donation, make the transfer, then dismantle the recurring donation.

There’s a setting that’s supposed to override the behavior, and I’ve tried multiple times, but it just doesn’t seem to like me.

        Computerses.

I donated through PayPal and didn’t see anything about recurring payments, only the 1 donation. Hopefully there’s not a hidden recurring payment somewhere 🙂

I’ve been trying to figure out if my 10/15/18 contribution to Windows Secrets carries over to Woody’s? I think I recall reading over there that it would convert to a Woody’s membership. I also contributed to Office Watch in December 2018. Does that count? Do I have to make another contribution to Woody’s to participate? I have an account on Woody’s but haven’t ever contributed to it directly as far as I know? ID is doneager.

      Thanks,

          Kirsty,

I wondered how long after becoming an AskWoody Plus member 46 minutes ago, fully paid up, will it take to see the plus symbol on my avatar. I can’t see it and I’ve logged out and in again.

Oops, sorry, I see it now I’ve posted. But it doesn’t show on the Home page. Is this intentional?
