• A profile cannot access the Internet

Single profile on my home computer cannot access the Web. I have enough experience to rule out several things, but after spending a couple hours on this…

    Datails:

[*]Running XP Pro, IE8, DSL through Secured Access Point.
[*]Single profile is affected – a limited account.
[*]DNS is not the issue as I can ping the router and all other sites I tried.
      [*]Windows Firewall is disabled.
[*]I have Internet Filtering software installed, but disabled it to test with no affect. When the Filter blocks content or complete websites, I get a specific local page indicating that the site has been block. Now I only get the Windows generic page “IE cannot display the webpage”. Of course, I cannot click the Diagnose button since I’m not logged in as an administrator.
[*]No infections per Anti-virus software. I guess I should run a separate online scan to double-check.
[*]I have Chrome installed. It cannot access websites on this profile, either.
[*]Although the symptoms do not point to it, I ran WinsockFix. No affect.
[*]Interestingly, I can run IE as Administrator from this profile and I can access the Web. This tells me that it is not a problem with IE or with my Internet Connection.
[*]There is another profile that is not an administrator profile and it can access the the web.

I’ve looked at everything I can think of with no resolution. My next step is to blow away and recreate the profile. I thought I would see if anyone here had other sugguestions before going that far.

I would be willing to bet the Limited User account has been corrupted. You might be better off saying good-bye and creating a new accountt.
