      Hi Amy:

Ok, a silly question…  How does this relate to a mailbox rule to forward mail to an external address?  For instance, if I have a shared mailbox “dog@internal-domain.com” and I set up a rule to always forward that mailbox to “dog@external-domain.com” will the new EAC default settings prevent that forwarding rule to work?  Do I now need to go into the EAC and setup exceptions to allow the external domain forwarding in addition to the having the individual mailbox rule to forward?

      Thanks much,

      Jim

Yes you will need to setup the rule that I described. That type of forwarding is the most common way that criminals are using to quietly sit in your account ,watch and wait for the right time to pounce.

Thanks – I understand.  However, I have a few questions on the implementation.  When I open the EAC, I do not see “rules” under “Mail Flow”.  When I switch back to the old version of EAC, I do see “rules”, but it is simply a section to create standard Outlook style rules.  And nowhere do I see:

Click through Admin centers/Exchange (more info) and then navigate to Mail Flow/Rules.
Uncheck any existing Block External AutoForwarding rules, as shown in Figure 9.

Figure 9. Unchecking Block External AutoForwarding has disabled an Exchange transport rule.*****

Any idea what I’m doing wrong??  🙂

          Thanks!

          Jim
