Recent Microsoft Edge updates contain an issue where the browser no longer lets you open a downloaded file with a single click. Instead, users must click two or even three times before the item opens…

      Wait a second!

OP: Yes it seems that it has something to do with the time spent on the file area. If the time between coming on it and clicking is very small it doesn’t seem to open the file. But if you wait a minimum 1 second it always works.

I’ve never experienced this problem when downloading files using Edge!

In fact, I just tested Edge v121.0.2277.128 and “multiple downloaded files” all opened on the first click; and I clicked Open file immediately (i.e. less than 1 sec.)

Just MHO, but requiring multiple clicks to open a downloaded file is more likely due to either the file hasn’t “really” finished downloading (even though Edge indicates it has) or Windows hasn’t finished processing the download to the point where the file “can” be opened.
