I’ve searched Microsoft and Woody’s with no luck:

I have a database that needs to be converted to v97 by another department. As a result, I added a command button to my menu bar to convert to a prior version of Access but when the switchboard opens, the button does not appear.

I then figured I would create code assigned to a custom button that does the same thing but all the code I saw for converting databases was geared towards conversion to the current version.

Does anyone know why the menu bar command disappears (I’ve seen this happen before)? Or does anyone know of code that will convert to a prior version.

If you added the command to the Database toolbar, it will disappear as soon as you open a database object, because the toolbar appropriate to that object (Table Datasheet, form View, etc.) will replace the Database toolbar.

I don’t think it is possible to convert the current database to a previous version using code, just as you can’t compact the current database in code.

I must admit, I wasn’t aware that Access had total control over the menu bar because the menu bar approach works well when in database view so thanks for clearing up why I couldn’t control it. Also, I had the notion that VBA was omnipotent and could do just about anything. Thanks for the information!
