I just installed a 970 EVO Plus NVMe drive in my custom built Win 10 Enterprise (V 1909; Build 18363.836) system and I’m unable to see any SMART info from the drive. I’m using it as my boot drive. The drive itself works fine and I see no other problems with it.

Motherboard is ASRock Z170A-X1/3.1  with BIOS P7.20. I did install the Samsung NVMe Controller driver 3.3.0.2003 (1/21/10).

When I view the SMART data using Samsung Magician it does not display properly. The Threshold, Current Value, and Worst Value columns are missing and most status entries indicate “N/A”.

Speccy indicates “S.M.A.R.T not supported” for the drive.

I have three other Samsung SSDs (all 850 EVO’s) connected via SATA that display SMART properly in Magician and Speccy.

I am using the latest version of Magician and Speccy.

Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated.

My Samsung M.2 NVMe doesn’t support S.M.A.R.T as well.

      smart

CrystalDiskInfo shows S.M.A.R.T support for the M.2 NVMe SSD.

      Hi mhlambert:

Both Speccy Free and HDDScan are currently unable to find the SMART attributes for my Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, but as Alex5723 suggested, CrystalDiskInfo works correctly. See my 22-Apr-2020 post in ZloboMiR’s thread No SSD NVM Info in the Speccy user forum. It probably doesn’t help that the latest Speccy v1.32.740 hasn’t been updated since 21-May-2018.

I prefer to download the standard portable (.ZIP) version of CrystalDiskInfo from https://crystalmark.info/en/download/ and run the unzipped DiskInfo64.exe from a USB thumb drive instead of installing the full program on my hard drive with the .exe installer.

I install CDI and leave it running to notify me if one of my disks reports a problem.

        cheers, Paul

Thanks all. After reviewing your info and digging in a bit further I’ve come to realize that while Speccy does not report SMART info for NVMe drives (at least not for my drive or the others noted above) that other utilities do.

My initial impression of Samsung Magician was incorrect. It does report NVMe SMART info it’s just that the data reported and the display format is different.

For comparison, here’s the SMART info reported by Samsung Magician from a SATA SSD and an NVMe SSD:
