    Hi,
Last night I received about 40 ‘undeliverable mail’ messages for messages I never sent. My immediate thought was some kind of trojan, but I have Zone Alarm Pro, AVG anti-virus, Spywareguard and when I ran AVG it turned up nothing.
So have I been hacked? How could this happen when my computer is tighter than Fort Knox? And what can I do about it if it can’t be detected?
Thanks for any insight you might have.

The most probable explanation is that someone else’s computer is infected and is sending out e-mails with you as sender (this kind of malware often uses e-mail addresses in the infected user’s address book/contacts folder as sender).

You could open one of the messages and look at View | Options to see if you can find out where it really comes from. If it’s from someone you know, you could warn him/her, but if it’s from somewhere abroad, there’s not much you can do about it, except hoping that it blows over soon.

Thanks Hans, very helpful as always.
      Cheers.

I’ll second HansV’s answer. I went through a period when I was getting so many of those that I added a filter to automatically junk them. I keep my AV and firewall up to date and scan for spyware regularly so I never concerned myself with them.
