    How can I set the format of an autonumber field to be 4 digits with leading zeros (so the first one would be 0001, and if the record number is 777, it would auto number as 0777)?

      You can set the Format property of the AutoNumber field to 0000 in the table, and/or in all queries, forms and reports based on the table. If you set the format in the table, all new queries, forms and reports based on the table will automatically inherit the format, but existing ones will not be updated automatically.
      The Format property only changes the way the number is displayed on screen and in printed output. It has no effect on the way the number is stored.
