None of the new Office updates seems selected by default on Windows 7, although they are classified as Important. I think Microsoft has got into the habit of presenting recently released Office Updates as not selected for few weeks, except for Windows 10.
Even if they are Important, if they are not presented as selected by default, this can be due to a multitude of reasons, like requiring more testing or being throttled and distributed gradually to avoid overloading of the update servers. Regardless of the reasons, if they are not selected, this indicates that they can wait a little longer and are not considered urgent by Microsoft, although probably useful in the longer term.

Office updates do not seem very popular when compared with Windows updates based on the number of posts.
Let’s not forget that web sites can contain Office documents or spreadsheets or presentations which can potentially be malicious when opened as much as Adobe pdfs. Same applies to email.

As of Wednesday September 7, 2016, at 6:32 pm EST, there are no new Office updates offered for my Office XP Professional (2002) software on my Windows 7 Professional desktop.

Maybe someone can tell mt why I receive Outlook updates for my MS Office Home and Student 2010 version? It doesn’t include Outlook.

It is likely that you actually have the Outlook components installed but restricted from use by licence implementation. Windows Update senses every target component installed and pushes the updates accordingly. If you are into the habit of patching Office, which is a good thing, I would suggest updating everything that is available, because in theory, although unlikely, there is a chance that malware can attack hidden components on the system.

Woody,
I’m doing a full backup first (not that I’m paranoid) and I see I have these updates waiting for me. Should I install only the security updates and not the Office updates?

I would install all of them. Quick look at the non-security updates are mostly fixes for problems that Microsoft introduced previously – so you’re fixing the buggy Microsoft patches.

I started running the update at 2 p.m. yesterday (Monday). When I got home around 10 p.m., it was still at 0% (yes, that’s a zero). I stopped it to do some work, then restarted it around 12:30 a.m.
It finished about 9:20 a.m.
I just rebooted and I was able to get in here, so, thank Heaven, it seems to still be working.

This morning I got a popup on my notifications bar to upgrade to Office 365. I can’t get rid of it. I shut down the actual popup by clicking Later, but it is still on my Notification bar. I don’t use Office 365. I downloaded OneNote 2013 last year, but I don’t use it. Just kept it because it was a free download at the time, thought I’d use it, but it used the Cloud which I didn’t want. I find conflicting info on disabling an item in the Registry. I’d like your opinion – or preferably – a fix. It mentions a banner which means from within the program but I don’t use any 2013 products. Mine is in the Noficiation Bar. This is what I found:

I just got hit with this at work, and here’s the solution I found which worked:

Exit all your MS Office programs (check the taskbar for Skype or any other minimized apps)
Run regedit to edit the registry
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice15.0ClickToRunUpdates
(your version number may vary)
In the right pane, you will see an option for UpgradeAdvertised
Change that value from 1 to 0
And that will get rid of the banner.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know the inner workings of Office Click-to-Run. Perhaps someone else here can answer your question.

And your only install Office program is OneNote 2013, yes?

Sorry, it is Windows 7. Yes, only OneNote 2013, not been opened/used for about a year or so. I do still run GWX and install my updates per Woody’s site.

Never asked for it.
