After an update, (22H2) my touchscreen stopped working. It didn’t even show up in the Device Manager. Running the device driver installation program from Lenovo did not help. Backing out 22H2 immediately restored my touchscreen.

I thought that was the end of the story, but it stopped working again just now. This time it was still available in the device manager, so I disabled and reenabled it (causing a reboot) and it’s working again. For how long?

    Lenovo laptop Y700.

That would seem to be a driver problem. Check the Lenovo site for an updated driver.

Just double-check at the Lenovo support site. The program may not properly detect your Windows version. Or it may not properly check the driver version.

At https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/y700-touch-15isk/80nw/downloads/driver-list I don’t even see a touchscreen driver listed. In Device Manager, the touchscreen is shown as an HID-compliant touch screen, and the driver is by Microsoft. I think I have to blame Microsoft for this.

If the device is not recognized at all in Device Manager, it could be a BIOS or chipset driver issue. Or somehow the touchscreen was disabled in the BIOS/UEFI.

And why did the touchscreen suddenly disappear when 22H2 installed? And why did it suddenly reappear when I undid 22H2?

Given the problem seems to exist in both Windows versions I would say you have a hardware problem and the reboot to 22H2 caused a failure – in other words, coincidence.

      cheers, Paul
