ASKWOODY ALERT!
Tomorrow’s Patch Tuesday: Make sure automatic update is OFFBy Woody Leonhard
Regardless of which version of Windows you use, today is a very good day to double-check that your machine won’t be automatically updated tomorrow.
Patch Tuesdays have turned into smoldering piles of buggy offal. It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen a real “patch it right now” emergency. (And if one does crop up, we’ll notify you via an Alert just like this one.)
For now, the smart money is on blocking Windows (and Office) patches until they’ve had time to bake. Which is to say, wait until the unpaid beta testers have had a chance to sound the alarm.
Repeat: Make sure automatic updating is turned off!
