MS-DEFCON 4: It’s time to install Microsoft’s February patchesBy Woody Leonhard
Most of the bugs introduced by MS patches in early Feb were fixed by early March, though a few persistent gremlins are still hanging around.
If you’re running Win10, you have an “all clear.” You’re good to go.
On the other hand, Win7 and Win8.1 users face a few oddities. (Aren’t there always?) February’s monthly rollups may require some manual fixes, especially if you’re still using Internet Explorer 11 (which I hope you aren’t) and/or you have a database application that uses an Access 95-era Jet database engine.
There have been a few disconcerting reports of bluescreens on Win 8.1 systems, following the installation of February’s cumulative updates. Other than that, though, the coast is clear.
Apply those patches.
