    In your article(s), I wish you would explicitly identify any Win 8 / 8.1 computers that are running Win 8 Retard, aka RT.

    Actually, I wish the builders would do that. They expect users to figure out from chip types what type of Windows you get.

      You are right that manufacturers and retailers often and sometimes apparently deliberately don’t distinguish between x86 and ARM models, which is important if you want to run Windows programs rather than just Microsoft Store apps. The whole Windows 8/Windows 8 RT nomenclature has been screwed up from day one, and that is largely Microsoft’s fault.

      I think that they were trying to simplify things, but they certainly failed at that.

      Typically, your average weak notebook type computers will be an RT based edition.
      But it’s up to you to look at specs to ensure that you’re getting what you want.

        Anyone who knows that there is a difference between x86 and ARM processors and that the Windows 8/8.1 RT machines are not software compatible with Windows x86 software, will certainly check the specs. Anyone who does know the difference, will not be aware that they need to check the specs.

        Microsoft needs to do more to let people know that they are two different hardware platforms. Some of the things I have read on the internet suggest that some of the people who work in the shops selling them don’t know the difference either.

      Look at the newest released hardware. They are not RT. They are Intel processors running the x86 version of Win 8.1.

      I think all one needs to do is go by price. RT version is less expensive than it was but still not competitive with Chromebooks and the Pro version is being compared with the Macbook AIR in MS commercials. Never the twain shall meet there!

      I have not seen any new hardware released recently that is running RT. Even the inexpensive small tablets are running x86 processors. Most of the small notebooks are running an Intel ATOM processor which is x86.

        So maybe the OEMs have solved the problem by not making the RT/ARM tablets, but they are still in the retail channels, and people are still confused.
