I have a new laptop running Windows 8.1 and it came with Norton Anti Theft. I don’t want it and I don’t need it. It keeps nagging me to buy it.

I have tried to uninstall through Programs and Features and on the Apps screen. When I do I get the same thing, a screen that wants me to sign into my Norton account. I attached a screen shot. I don’t have a Norton account and don’t want one. I don’t see a way around this. If I click sign in without entering a sign in, it won’t do anything.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this thing? I Googled it and didn’t find anything that sounded right. There were offers to download a tool to remove it but I didn’t trust any of those.

I would appreciate any help that you can provide. Thank you.

Have you tried the Norton Removal Tool?

      • #1428821

Yes, however it does not list the Anti Theft program as one of the programs that it removes. Tried it anyway, no luck.
        Thank you.

Have you tried Revo Uninstaller. Unfortunately the free version only sees 32 bit apps, whereas the Pro version sees all apps.

      This Norton articlemay help.

Thank you for the suggestions. I went to Norton’s site and got on a chat. The support person said that they could remove it. They logged on to my computer and … they couldn’t remove it.

I went back to the Norton site and signed up for an account. Then when I tried to Uninstall, I entered my email address and my new password and it uninstalled! I guess it makes a certain amount of sense, if somebody stole your computer, they could just uninstall this program and then you wouldn’t be able to find it but it would have been nice to know that. Poor customer support. Now I am really glad that I decided to unload all of their stuff.

        Thanks again for the help!

Glad you got sorted in the end.

The link I gave you included this

Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all the Norton products from your computer.

But as you say, it kinda makes sense that they don’t remove that particular product!
