• Unable to get to all websites (XP SP3)

I am having trouble getting to the secure section of my banking site. I get a message that says “Connection interrupted” second line says “The document contains no data” and then the final part says “The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again”

I think the problem is with Windows because it doesn’t matter if I use Firefox or IE. I can browse all other sites, although some are very much slower than others. I have a second machine (also XP SP3) on this little network and it is fine and does not have the access problems. So I assume that it is not router problems.

The machine experiencing the trouble is a newer one where I installed SP3 and all updates as the first thing, but I think that telling you that may be a red herring.

Using AVG with the web filter turned off. Have checked the IPv6 configs as per what I have found at Google, but still no luck. There are lots of reports of this error, but nothing satisfactory in the ‘fixit’ department.

    Any ideas?

Are you trying to connect direct to your banking site or through a financial program?

I use Quicken and it USED to be able to connect to my secure info and download updates but now it no longer can do it since the bank drastically changed it’s security validation procedures. Apparently Quicken is not able to handle these new procedures.
I can still access it if I manually go through the security.

You might also check with your bank to see if they can suggest something.

        Hi Bob,

I go through their website. I can get to their front page, but when I click on the ‘logon’ link, the popup window shows but does not load content. (And yes, I have checked all those popup settings to allow them from the bank).

I guess that I will have to contact them.

        Thanks

        Update:

I have spoken to my bank and their best idea is that I contact my ISP. The chap at the bank helpdesk could not explain to me why my ISP might block one machine on my network and not the other.

At this point, though, I will follow the chain and will ring the ISP to see if they have any better ideas than the bank.

        Added later:
My ISP were VERY helpful and a manual config of the http proxy settings did the trick. Funny though, that the machine that could always connect still has no config of proxy.

My thanks to anyone who scratched their heads over this one for me.
