    Is there a way to display the outline of document headings on the left side of the screen and the contents of the document on the right side of the screen?

      Does View | Document Map do what you want?

      Warning: Document Map can have unexpected side effects – it may change the outline level of paragraphs spontaneously. Outline Levels and the Document Map on the Word MVP site recommends “Don’t use the Document Map”…
