    What the heck is ‘grokster’ and why do I need it????

      It’s a file sharing program, reportedly with a payload of adware and spyware. If you search the forums, it’s mentioned in P2P and Pop-up ads. A Google on it produces enough links to drown in.

          Sorry, can’t help you on that score, since I haven’t used it, or other file sharing products. Someone else may be able to advise. Or, maybe you could post a new request in this forums to ask for advice directly?

          Have you tried Google with your favourite artists, albums, or tracks, to see where it leads you?

          Bruce K provided instructions and a link to Kazaa Lite Deluxe, a file sharing program that is void of spyware and adware. I use it and I like it and if you’d like to give it a whirl, just click here .

          I’ve run grokster in the past. It’s not bad. One of the neat tricks is that it will download from multiple sources, and plug it all together at the end. (Handy if you have a quick download, and are pulling from a bunch of slow connections).

          I’ve installed it here and there, and all I can recommend is that after the install, WIPE OUT Gator, and anything other ‘installations’ that appear. Grokster runs fine without them, it just installs them when it is installed (OR WHEN IT IS UPGRADED). (I think there is a Grokster ‘add’ program, I left it alone. I kicks a few popups up, but only when Grokster first loads.) I run ZoneAlarm to prevent anything else from happening…that is something I also recommend doing….my hits on Zone Alarm go up drastically when I’m logged into Grokster.

            One SMALL problem…
            I could not get Grokster 1.6(I think that was the ver.) to even install on my system. The article I read gave an older version number but when I go to the Grokster site all I was able to d/l was the latest version. I have a slow connection here and I would love the multiple d/l thingy but alas no install disappointed

              Sorry can’t help. I normally keep downloaded .exe’s, but I can’t find an older version of it on my machine.

              Gramped ~

              I highly recommend you click here, then click the ‘download’ link on the top left, then click on the ‘All languages’ link at the top underneath ‘KaZaA Lite 1.7.x’, scroll down to ‘Downloads’ and download the English 1.7.2 version.

              This is the exact same program as Grokster, but without the spyware/adware and pop-ups and improved performance.

              That site has lots of helpful tips to make your file-sharing experience pleasant and fruitful. Good luck!
