    Are the CDs you are not able to read, ones you have created / burned yourself or are they factory made disks ?? If they are homemade disks, have you or the source of the CDs recently upgraded your CD-RW drive to a higher speed model ?? If the drive is still able to read factory created disks then it probably is related to the inability of older CD-ROM drives to read disks burned on a CD-RW drive.
    Try a homemade disk that you know worked before this “problem” started and if that works, try one that you know doesn’t work now. If the second disk still doesn’t work and the first one does, that’s probably your answer.

      Doc,

      I should have known. It is a newer, CD-RW type Drive (TDK VeloCD); & my machine at work was mfg’d in ’95. Thanks.

        Also check that CD-W on any other player, and you may NOT be able to read there also. One will find that the CD-W’s may and may not be readalbe by another player if the CD-W has NOT been closed

          Dave,

          Funny you should mention that. The “Nero” CD Burning software that came with the TDK does not provide two essential options: 1) to test prior to burning; & 2) closing the session. The reason they give is that the Burner is a Hi-Speed 48x, for use with USB 2.0. I have it installed utilizing USB 1.1 on a machine running Win98SE; & it will only burn at 4x. Guess it’s time to move to Roxio? Thanks.

            mark4man,

            Nero BurningROM versions 5.5 and above HAVE that options – on the “New Compilation” dialog (first dialog when you start the program) click “Burn” tab, you will see “Simulation” and “Finalize CD” checkboxes for that options.

              Man Oh Man! I can’t help but marvel at the diversity of Loungers we have here! Is that YOU vocalizing on “Golden Rainbow?” (I like to visit the web sites of as many Loungers as I can take the time to do). Sweet sound, whoever it is!

              That’s me, brother. Thanks for the compliment. The artist’s on the site have a compilation CD being released (hopefully by Christmas.) I had originally planned on producing a CD for each artist, including myself, but through the democratic process, it was determined that the compilation project would replace the solo artist project, for now (which was everyones nice way of saying: I’m just too slow!) Anyway, if you’re interested, I’ll let you know when it’s released (& in the meantime, watch for more uploaded material.) Thanks again.

      On my PC at work (which is still running Windows 95; & which is also prior to the advent of Windows Media Player), the CD Audio Player seems have taken over my CD ROM Drive (D.) If I place a “non audio” CD in the drive that does not have any type of autorun trigger (such as backups & copies), the CD Player Transport pops up; & essentially tells me I have inserted an audio CD. If I go to Explorer, that drive has the Audio CD Icon displayed. How can I get rid of this bugaboo, or at least get the system back to where it was, which was the correct CD data displayed for that drive in Explorer whenever a CD was inserted. Thanks.
